Building Next Generation Leaders in the Global Telco Industry

Building Next Generation Leaders in the Global Telco Industry

Gen Z has officially taken the place of Millennials as the largest generation. Generation Z includes people born after 1996 and currently encompasses 32% of the global population and 11% of the workforce. Nurturing new leaders from this generation through people development is of key importance for global telco companies like Telin to secure the businesses going forward and win the global competition. So how does Telin do it? What kind of people development do we do?

According to LinkedIn research, “Gen Zers share a curiosity for undiscovered frontiers, untapped skills, and multidimensional thinking — and they are inclined toward action, they’re the leaders in seeking more opportunities to move up or increase responsibilities (61%) and more opportunities to learn or practice new skills (76%).”

Accordingly, we at Telin have actively pushed to create learning paths and opportunities to develop leadership qualities, among others through our Dreamcatcher program which focuses on the development of people.

Dreamcatcher, Our Young Leadership Program

Dreamcatcher is Telin's Young Leadership Program, a one-year mentoring program aimed at nurturing talented young employees under the age of 30, which was created based on our belief that leaders are not born, but made. The program is designed to allow mentees to learn from Telin's senior leaders, including the Board of Directors, Supervisors, and Global Head Countries, over 12 mentoring sessions.

The mentoring sessions focus on providing valuable insights, and sharing success stories, and experiences to help mentees develop the skills and qualities necessary to become effective leaders. The program also aims to help mentees set their own goals and develop a clear action plan that they can work towards during the year-long program.

Dreamcatcher offers personal and professional growth opportunities and access to a network of peers and mentors from diverse backgrounds. The program creates an environment where mentees can share their experiences and learn from one another. It is accessible and affordable to all, as we believe that anyone with the right mindset, commitment, and willingness to learn can benefit from the program.

The program includes consultation sessions with mentors, Action Learning Program (ALP) development, and continuous reporting of ALP progress. Mentees will receive feedback and insights from their mentors, which will be added to their final ALP. At the end of the program, Telin Human Resources will conduct a 360-degree rating to determine the best mentee of the year.

This program has been a game-changer for Telin in identifying and nurturing potential high-performance leaders among the Gen Z cohort. Through this and other initiatives, we at Telin can be assured that we will be able to maintain an innovation culture and the ability to boldly lead in our industry to win international competition in business.

This year marks the second year of Dreamcatcher, with 5 winners from 2022 mentees receiving an opportunity to select training in 7 biggest institutions namely Harvard Business School, Stanford Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management, INSEAD Business School, London Business School, Kellogg School of Management, and the University of Oxford.
