Telintrapreneur's Debut T-Talks

Jakarta, 25 November 2024Telintrapreneur (previously known as Telinnovation Program) is opening doors to greater opportunities for all Telin Group employees, known as Teliners, who are eager to realize their Big Dreams and Be Bold. Launched with a series of awareness campaigns starting in late October 2024, the Telintrapreneur program has successfully generated significant buzz and curiosity. This program is carefully designed to awaken the innovative spirit within every Teliner. As we know, a company without innovation risks offering outdated products and solutions that fail to address customers' evolving needs, leading to a decline in the global market. Innovation is the lifeblood that keeps a company vibrant and relevant, injecting color and creating sparks that lead to further innovation.

The T-Talks event, held at CGV Pacific Place, engaged approximately 50% of Telin employees worldwide through a hybrid session. The event commenced with a briefing by Wendhyharto Kusumaatmadja, Group Head of Digital Initiative, who shared insights on innovation in the real world. This was followed by an inspiring panel session featuring Doni Andriansyah, Telin CFRMO; Kharisma, Telin CCO; and Abdul Rahman Ansyori, Telin CCO. Each board member shared insights into the challenges faced by the telecommunications industry, both present and in the future. The session was moderated by Akhmad Deniar Perdana Kusuma, VP of Product Innovation & Development.

So, where does innovation start? It begins with identifying problems and pain points. It’s driven by the desire to improve processes and deliver better outcomes for our customers. Unfortunately, some of our efforts to provide solutions have resulted in 'me too' products, rather than offering unique value propositions to the market,” said Kharisma, Telin CCO. Echoing the words of Simon Sinek, people don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it, and solving their problems is the why.

How Does Innovation Begin? Innovation starts when we shift our perspective from an inward-focused approach to one that looks outward, embracing the viewpoint of market validation. By creating solutions that are informed by external insights and real-world needs, innovation can deliver greater value. This is achieved through effective collaboration, which can lead to significant positive impacts on the business.

Why Does Innovation Sometimes Fail? There are several common reasons, such as a lack of management support. Strong leadership is fundamental in prioritizing and supporting innovation within an organization. It begins with fostering an environment that encourages experimentation and learning from failure. Just as with Agile methodologies, organizations need to cultivate a culture that values innovation and creativity. Innovation thrives when team members are willing to participate, motivated to invent, and eager to contribute to the company's future. This can be achieved through the 3A approach: Aware, Accept, and Adapt.

Doni Andriansyah, Telin's CFRMO, highlighted the cultural challenges inherent in innovation at Telin, which operates across diverse markets with varying regulatory, social, and business norms. "Diversity can be a strength, but it also presents challenges. Not all regions prioritize the same values, and aligning a unified vision is a complex task. Are we building a culture that not only respects diversity but also harnesses it to foster cohesion and innovation globally?"

This perspective underscores the importance of a supportive culture and leadership in driving successful innovation across diverse and dynamic environments.

Innovation: A Continuous Journey, Not Just an Event

Innovation should not be seen as a one-time task or something that happens only during special events. Instead, it should be a dynamic, ongoing process that permeates every aspect of an organization. "Planning and deploying network expansions and upgrades are capital-intensive and demand significant investment," notes Abdul Rahman Ansyori, Telin's CTO. Challenges like siloed thinking and lack of collaboration, where departments or teams fail to share information, can hinder innovative thinking and problem-solving.

Wrapping up the T-Talks session, Telin CEO Budi Satria Dharma Purba emphasized the core objective of the Telintrapreneur program: to foster collaborative ideas and breakthrough solutions, nurturing a business mindset across all Telin Group employees. Recognizing that people are our most valuable assets, Telin aims to provide employees with comprehensive benefits through the Telintrapreneur initiative. This includes not only financial rewards but also compensation for intellectual rights, opportunities for product and resource development, and new leadership positions. Budi commented, "Intrapreneurship is an innovative approach to maintaining consistency and making continuous efforts to grow."
