Jakarta, 12th July 2018 _ SEA-US s interconnection to Yap island, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) has entered the Ready for Service (RFS) on 28th June 2018. The readiness of this project funded by the World Bank is such an important milestone in telecommunication and information for FSM, an island located in the middle of Pacific Ocean. The island s internet speed that was previously supported by satellite is now doubled due to the use of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system. To add, the project s RFS is at the same time as the MicroGames 2018, a Micronesia Olympic games with countries like FSM, Palau, Guam, and Marshall island joining takes place on 15th - 28th July 2018 where Yap acts as a host.
SEA-US cable extension to FSM also supported by NEC Corporation, the project contractor. The cable connects Yap island to Guam via SEA-US with 500 Gbps capacity provided by Telin.
Beforehand, on 4th May 2018, Telin'signed an Interconnection Agreement with FSM in Guam, Hyatt Regency regarding the interconnection of Palau and Yap island to SEA-US cable system. The signing was done by Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Telin, Nanang Hendarno and The Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Communication & Infrastructure of the FSM, Luke Weilbacher, and witnessed by the President of FSM, Peter Christian.
SEA-US is a 14,500 kilometers length cable system, stretched along a unique route and has been designed and engineered to bypass earthquake prone areas in East Asia, thereby providing a strategic diversity in the range of connectivity to transpacific networks with ensured stable connectivity. The cable system was built by a consortium of 7 global telecommunication companies namely Telin, Globe Telecom, Hawaiian Telecom, GTA, GTI, RTI, dan Telin USA.
