In a world where digital has become part of the everyday, Telin’s duty to conduct our business responsibly looms larger than ever.
In 2023, we’re committed to continue strengthening our environmental, social and governance (ESG) roadmap in every facet of our operations, towards ensuring that we’re creating sustainable value for our customers and other stakeholders.
We’ve categorized our efforts into three focus areas: People, Product, and Planet, with specific initiatives in each area. Each area has distinct initiatives, all collectively aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), serving as benchmarks for inclusive development. This year, we present these initiatives under the umbrella of #TelinForCommunity.
People
Individuals at Telin hold key responsibilities in steering and upholding sustainability initiatives within the company. Telin's people pillar focuses on creating and maintaining high-quality human resources by implementing a talent management cycle program, developing digital capability readiness, professional certification, and promoting inclusivity.
The Young Talent Dreamcatcher Program was implemented to nurture employees under the age of 30 through a mentorship framework, matching mentees with experienced top-level executives for an immersive three-month period. The program's culmination involved the recognition of a standout participant, who was awarded a global executive education opportunity at top-tier universities and institutions. In 2023, the best mentee earned the privilege of Global Executive Education at Stanford University.
Furthermore, each year, the recognition of The Best Employee spans all organizational levels, evaluating individuals on the criteria of performance excellence, commitment to corporate culture, and contributions to environmental initiatives. The top three employees in each category receive coveted opportunities for overseas training at esteemed institutions like Harvard Business School, Stanford Business School, Kellogg School of Management, MIT Sloan School of Management, London Business School, INSEAD, and the University of Oxford.
With merit-based talent development investments and additional efforts to nurture women leaders, we are culminating in the launch of the #TelinEmpowHer campaign in December 2023. We’ve also worked together with a local foundation in Timor Leste to hire talented individuals with disabilities, as part of building a more inclusive and diverse workforce.
To support People in our surroundings, our employees have opportunities to volunteer and participate in community initiatives such as Sahabat Pintar, an educational program we founded that teaches students digital skills and literacy. These activities are designed to elevate digital literacy, foster well-being, and exemplify Telin's commitment to providing individuals and communities with the necessary tools to navigate the digital landscape effectively.
Finally, we regularly hold charity activities, and digital educational activities and fundraise for orphanages and other underprivileged organizations. At the end of 2023, we initiated The Joint Donation Program with our customers to UNICEF.
Product
In our business, we prioritize investing in innovative technologies to build robust, efficient, and high performance connections for enterprise organizations as well as end customers, and communities in the regions that we serve.
Our subsea cable network and other infrastructure plays a key role in supporting broadband access for many areas, which is key to digital inclusivity and access. In Timor Leste for example, through our subsidiary Telkomcel, we provide widespread cell phone service for the public, as well internet service. This in turn supports business activity, educational activities, and much more.
Through innovative Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service platforms, such as NeuAPIX and NeuTrafiX, we have lowered the cost structure for certain types of business, supporting them in the digital transformation to digitalize faster and better.
Where possible, we support local communities and business through our business activities, for example by promoting tourism in Bali at the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) and supporting Indonesian immigrant workers in Taiwan with opportunities to become digital resellers.
Planet
Recognizing that emissions and material usage are key issues that need to be addressed, we continue to make small but tangible steps to try to minimize our environmental footprint. From going paperless to adhering to rigorous energy efficiency standards in our data centers, these actions add up.
In Singapore, the Telin-3 Data Centre has been awarded the prestigious BCA-IMDA Green Mark Platinum Award in recognition of features such as its Low Envelope Thermal Transfer Value (ETTV) building design, energy-efficient chilled water plant, use of efficient DRUPS to reduce chemical waste from UPS standby batteries, use of environmental friendly ASHRAE Class A1 refrigerant, at least 99% potable water savings with NEWater and efficient Cooling Tower design, and use of Energy Efficient LED Lightings & WELS "Excellent" water fitting and more.
We also held employee volunteer for The Mangrove Planting and Beach Cleaning Program in West Java during the year, as part of our contribution to restoring and conserving the environment around us, and contributing to those around us.
We hope to mitigate our carbon emissions and improve our energy efficiency throughout our operations.
