Batam, December 18, 2024 – PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Internasional (Telin) Universitas Internasional Batam (UIB) strengthen their commitment to empowering coastal communities in Batam through two strategic initiatives. First, they inaugurated a new hygiene facility at Pantai Nemo, Nongsa, as part of the NARU 2024-2025 Charity Program, and second, they launched the "Sahabat Pintar for Coastal Community" program to enhance digital skills for the community in Kampung Tua Nongsa.
The inauguration event of the new sanitation facility at Nemo Beach was attended by G.E Dhany Widjajanta, Senior Vice President of Governance & Compliance Group at Telin, and Dr. Meiliana, Vice Rector I of UIB. This initiative aims to improve public sanitation, empower coastal communities, and support the development of sustainable tourism in the Nongsa region. G.E Dhany Widjajanta stated, "The signing of this cooperation agreement marks an important step in strengthening our commitment to empower coastal communities through the development of digital skills and ecotourism. We hope this initiative will bring significant benefits to the local economy in Kampung Tua Nongsa."
This collaboration also includes the launch of the "Sahabat Pintar for Coastal Community" program, which aims to enhance digital skills and develop an ecotourism-based economy for the coastal communities in Kampung Tua Nongsa. The program is scheduled to run from February to April 2025, involving 25 productive-age participants who will receive training in various areas such as English language, small business management, digital marketing, and technology literacy for eco-tourism development. Dr. Meiliana added, "This collaboration reflects UIB's dedication to making a real impact on the community. We hope that this program will help create a sustainable MSME ecosystem and empower the local community."
Through these two initiatives, Telin and UIB reaffirm their commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in clean water, sanitation, community empowerment, and sustainable tourism development. Telin will provide the facilities and information to support the program, while UIB will oversee the implementation of the training and community assistance.
As part of this collaboration, the newly inaugurated hygiene facility will support sustainable tourism development in Nongsa, while the digital skills training program is expected to increase local economic capacity and strengthen the ecotourism sector.
Telin and UIB remain committed to empowering coastal communities through technology, education, and infrastructure that promote welfare and local economic growth.
