Jakarta, 26 January 2024 – In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral ties, the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste have formalized their commitment to foster collaboration in the realms of communication and informatics. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlines the framework for cooperation in key areas, including Radio Communication, Telecommunication Services, Informatics Application, and Postal and Courier Services.

The MoU, signed by representatives from both nations, establishes a foundation for joint efforts aimed at advancing technological capabilities and connectivity. The primary focus areas identified in the document include many key areas, including Radio Communication, Telecommunication Services, Informatics Application, and Postal & Courier Services.

This outlines various initiatives aimed at improving border areas radio communication, telecommunication services, informatics application, postal and courier services, and philately. Radio frequency coordination and monitoring are crucial, along with data exchange and management systems. Telecommunication services facilitate infrastructure development, improve communication networks, and bridge the digital divide. Informatics application promotes internet governance, business cooperation, and the promotion of emerging technologies like AI, big data, and the internet of things. Postal and courier services involve philately, joint stamp issues, remittance services, and the possibility of item exchange via border areas. These initiatives aim to enhance communication and promote cooperation in border areas.

Telkomcel, a member of the Telin Group, appreciates the signing of the MoU as it presents an opportunity to enhance service quality for cellular customers in Timor Leste. Telkomcel is hopeful for support from Timor Leste government to expedite permits for cross-border  development, connecting Timor Leste’s network to international markets through Telin’s global infrastructure.
