Bali, 29 August 2024 - Participants of the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) 2024 organized by PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), a subsidiary of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, attended the second day of the BATIC 2024 conference which began with a Charity Morning Run. With the theme “Charting a Sustainable Course”, the second day of the conference focused on how industry players integrate sustainability practices into the company's business operations.
In a panel discussion on the topic “Industry's Collaborative Effort to a Sustainable Future”, Telkom VP Sustainability Gunawan Wasisto Ciptaning Andri explained how TelkomGroup runs its business based on sustainability principles across all corporate entities. “Telkom has an ESG program called EXIST (ESG Existence for Sustainability by Telkom Indonesia). EXIST itself is divided into three pillars, namely the Right Environment Approach for the Environment pillar, Right People for the Social pillar, and Right Governance for the Governance pillar. Implemented through various company initiatives, such as managing data protection, complying with rules and corporate governance, as well as inclusivity, diversity, equality in our work environment,” Gunawan explained.
“For the environmental aspect, TelkomGroup fully supports the Net Zero Emissions program. The company makes various efforts to increase the efficiency of energy use which will then reduce the amount of emissions produced,” Gunawan added. Also joining the panel discussion session were Iman Muhammad, Regional Vice President / Country Director, Salesforce Indonesia; Julian Gorman, Head of APAC, GSMA; Kishan Thakarshi, Vice President of ESG Solutions, HSBC Global Banking; Yessie Yosetya, Director & Chief Enterprise Business & Corporate Affairs Officer, XL Axiata.
The day will feature three keynotes, “Integrating Sustainable Practices in Data Center Operations: A Case Study from NTT GDC”, “Meeting the Next Generation of Internet Demand Through Sustainable Approaches”, and “Scale Made Simple: Innovations for Sustainable Optical Networking”. Wrapping up the day is a thought-provoking panel on “Industry’s Collaborative Effort to a Sustainable Future”. With speakers from industry giants like NTT Global Data Centers, Google Cloud SEA, Nokia, HSBC Global Banking, and more, day two promises to be just as impactful as the first.
A keynote on "Integrating Sustainable Practices in Data Center Operations : A Case Study from NTT GDC" brought by Susumu Yoneoka, Senior Director, Finance, Sustainability (APAC) of NTT Global Data Centers CBJ1 which share more about adopting renewable energy to achieve carbon neutrality. The excitement continues with a keynote on “Meeting The Next Generation of Internet Demand Through Sustainable Approach” by Adir Ginting, Head of Enterprise Sales Google Cloud SEA, which help organizations use AI-powered insights to monitor their progress towards sustainability targets in order to build business resilience.
Following by the keynote on “Scale Made Simple Innovations for Sustainable Optical Networking”, brought by Vito Di Maria, Vice President, APAC Optical Networks Business Center, Network Infrastructure, Nokia. Through this presentation, focusing on two approach : Maximizing Positive Impact through decarbonizing other industries and society, enabling the transition of the energy sector, providing the critical networks for life and connecting the unconnected with digital skills. The second approach is to Minimize The Negative Impact by : continually improving product energy efficiency, driving circularity to reduce waste, de-risking the potential misuse of technology and building sustainable operations& supply chain.
Attendees can also explore into a panel discussion as the last session on the 2nd Day of Conference, on “Industry’s Collaborative Effort to a Sustainable Future” joined by Julian Gorman, Head of APAC from GSMA, Yessy Yosetya, Director & Chief Enterprise Business and Corporate Affairs Officer, XL; Kishan Thakarshi, Vice President of ESG Solutions at HSBC Global Banking, Iman Muhammad, Regional Vice President and Country Director of Salesforce Indonesia; Gunawan Wasisto Ciptaning Andri, VP of Sustainability, Telkom Indonesia.
This is the first year at BATIC event, which we have MEF SEA Executive Council Inauguration as the formal establishment and introduction of the Southeast Asia Executive Council within the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). The inauguration of this council would mark the beginning of its activities, bringing together industry leaders from the region to collaborate on projects, drive innovation, and promote the adoption of MEF standards and practices across Southeast Asia, to strengthen regional collaboration and ensure that the unique needs of Southeast Asia are addressed within the broader context of MEF's global initiatives.
